In 2024, LandWISE celebrated 25 years’ promoting sustainable production through leadership, support and research. Since we began in a field in 1999, we’ve completed a range of projects helping to conserve our soils, use our water wisely and get environmental and economic benefits from new (and old) technology options.
LandWISE Conference 2026 – Soil Health for Profit
Our “Soil Health for Profit” conference theme in 2026 is, in some ways, a return to the past. LandWISE arose out of work to combat soil erosion through use of minimum tillage and we’re returning to strip-till in 2026. A lot has been learned in the intervening years! Along with that, we’ll look at what can be done to measure and manage crop nutrition and soil health to ensure sustainability and long-term profitability.

Success Stories
We are proud of work we have done leading development of irrigation system performance evaluations, calibration methods for broadcast and placement application equipment, nutrient budgeting for cropping farms, and precision agriculture. We pioneered strip-tillage in New Zealand, which drew us into GPS control and autosteer and controlled traffic farming. We’ve researched precision viticulture, precision land shaping for drainage in orchards, and methods to map variability in onion fields, neutron densometers to measure soil compaction, and the benefits to horticulture of satellite-based augmentation systems for better GPS/GNNS accuracy. Now we are leading research into the application of regenerative agriculture principles into intensive process crop production and effects of soil health, carbon stocks and profitability.
Become a Member
We are a charitable organisation, dependent on our members and sponsors to be able to achieve our aims. Our Full Members pay a small amount each year (<$3/week!) which allows us to function. We encourage anyone who supports our efforts to become a Full Member!
We have a free registration that gives access to most parts of our site including online courses and priority notices of events.
